There will be no meeting tonight since Finals Week is coming up and we want you all to do well on them. But we are planning on meeting up next Friday and during winter break to work on the structure.
If you are planning on joining us for the competition in Boston, you need to sign up for the EERI student membership online.
Here is the link for the membership forms and its only $25 for the student membership:
Good luck on Finals everyone!
Tomorrow night there will be NO SEISMIC DESIGN MEETING.
CWEA is hosting a Hot Wings Challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings in West Covina. Our vice president, Carlos McEniry will be representing EERI/Seismic Design for the competition.
If you are interested in this event and need carpooling, we will be meeting in the Structures Lab (17-1660) at 7:30 pm and we will leave for Buffalo Wild Wings at 8:00 pm.
We encourage you all to come to this event since you will be able to meet the other civil engineering clubs while having fun!
Short meeting this week (Thursday), where we will talk about officer positions! If you feel like you want to have a bigger role in this club, come out and hear more about what we have for next year! You have the power.
Elections will be held April 30th, 2014.
10AM to 5PM. We’re kickin’ the new year off right! Join us for a build day, where we will start building and testing some concepts we can use for the model. If you enjoy gluing or sawing wood sticks, come and join us.
We’re having a build day on December 23, 2013. What is a build day? A day to put this puppy together! We’ll be gluing and cutting wood. It should be fun and the more the merrier. So put down your candy canes and pick up a wood stick with us on Monday, December 23, 2013.
Thursday, November 14th during U-Hour, our very own structural engineer, Dr. Farran will be giving us a presentation on Earthquake Engineering. Dr. Farran has over 25 years of experience teaching at Cal Poly Pomona. In his years, he has run the gamut across all the structural courses, including Design, Finite Element Analysis, and a multitude of graduate-level engineering courses.
Dr. Farran is a very experienced engineer and a passionate speaker. Come see him, as he might say, bring the house down. Figuratively!
We announced all the teams we will have. No experience needed if you want to join any team. Here they are:
- Architecture Team
- Materials: Glue
- Materials: Balsa
- Proposal, Poster, and Cost Estimation
Also, regardless of your team, you are welcome to help ANY team. Specifically, everyone will probably be helping in construction.
If any of these teams pique your interest, talk to us. We appreciate your help!
November 1st, 2013 in the Commons (Between the bookstore and suites), we will have a booth in the Cesar Chavez Center’s 19th Annual Dia de los Muertos event. The event turnout is usually huge.
We will be selling platanos fritas, a Mexican dessert made with plantains. If you don’t like plantains, there are tons of booths selling diverse types of Latin American cuisine. Come out and support the event. And us. November 1st.
We are having a competition demonstration on Thursday, October 31st (Halloween 2013) during U-Hour in 17-1660 (Structures Lab). Come out and watch the competition in real time and get a taste of it by heading to our Videos section.
We will likely destroy the structure, violently hurdling wood shards around the structures lab with cracks echoing through the high ceiling and concrete floor, watch as our hard work is crushed in a glorious presentation of force.
Remember: Thursday October 31st, 2013 (Halloween meeting). Bring your costumes.
We met some great people at the club fair this Thursday with 3 of our previous structures. Here are some pictures:
We’re hoping to meet more people in this coming year as we build our next structure. We’re gonna have a lot of fun. If you didn’t come out and you want to be added to the email list, just email our webmaster: firstname.lastname@example.org.
